Many people have never heard of the small town of Sax Spain that is in the south-eastern province of Alicante, Spain. The town of Sax only has a small population of around 9000 inhabitants and has been on the map for a very long time and it has some very attractive features that should attract the tourist who was looking for something different. Before I start on about what you can expect to find in the town, I want to tell you a little bit about how to get here. There are many different airports in the region and you will find Alicante airport to be the closest. Alicante airport is actually located in the city of Elche, and not in Alicante as one might think. From Alicante airport you would travel on the A-31 in the north west in direction passing through the towns of Monforte del Cid and Elda.  The next stop is the town of Sax.

The first thing that you are going to discover upon arriving in this town is peace and quiet that is a day-to-day occurrence here. In this town, mañana really is the catchword. Many people are heading to the interior parts of the Costa Blanca in order to search for more tranquillity and many people even find that they get a spiritual buzz from places like this where they can enjoy their well earned vacations. Typical to many of the towns and villages in the area, the architecture is based around both military and religious buildings. Some towns are armed to buildings that actually serve a dual purpose. Here in Sax you will find military buildings of significance because of the position that the town held throughout its history, being between two sets of mountains that lead from the coast up onto the Spanish plateau. It is a route that is used today for the railway journeys from Alicante to Madrid.

So, peace and quiet is the first thing that you should expect to find here. Another thing is excellent food and drink. Much of the food that you will be served here will be grown in a local soil. The area is well known for its fertile land and the vegetables from the land and fruit from the trees are spectacularly fresh and healthy. The town also has a healthy smattering of vineyards where grapes are grown for a variety of local wines. Also, you should try some of the fantastic local olive oils. And, just think that if you get fed up with the peace and quiet, you can always take a short trip back down the A-31 to one of the city’s on the Costa Blanca’s coastline.
