High definition television is becoming more and more accessible. Watching HD online is now possible and easily available to the average internet user. We have reached a level now where the high bandwidths that comes as standard with broadband internet connections make steaming high definition television over the internet a reality. Also the average PC or laptop computer has sufficient CPU and graphics power to download and display high definition television over the internet.
So without even knowing it, the average internet enabled home already has everything that is required to access HD TV online without making any additional investments in computer equipment, software or upgrading internet connections.
So what constitutes HD viewing online? This is a bit of a grey area as there are no standards in practice here. In world of televisions HD is classed as resolutions of 1520 x 720 and full HD is 1920 x 1080. Online these standards don’t really apply and the resolutions vary.
So what high content is available to download or view on the internet? ABC, NBC, BBC, ITV and SKY are TV broadcasters that are beginning to provide their high definition television online. Some of the content is free and some is only available as a subscription service.
As well as the satellite and terrestrial broadcasters that we are already familiar with, there are also a whole lot of other providers that stream high definition content online. There is large range of viewing available online, some of it free some of it subscription based. Obviously the better quality services tend to be the ones which have a cost involved.
