Trivia for movies, has to be one of the most popular forms of trivia I can think of. I guess, since there’s so many components to the movie industry, that it makes for some great movie fodder and movie trivia quiz questions. There are of course all the celebrities involved in making moves. And as if the scandal sheets weren’t enough to keep us all busy, trivia facts about which actor dated the most actresses, or made the most movies in a given year, or had the majority of spats with directors makes for easy trivia picking.
Another thing great about movies, is the whole business of making movies. Even a mid range budget modern movie made these days runs into the millions of dollars. Making a movie, is really like running a small corporation with a limited life span. They burn through tons of materials, and fabricate all kinds of crazy stuff like props, spaceships, fantasy worlds, special effects, weapons, swords, and costumes are again an huge wealth of trivia facts.
Then of course, there are the actual movie as a finished product themselves. One of the interesting things people like to get out watching movies are the flaws and inaccuracies. And, I’m not just talking about Star Trek fan boys here, that are anal about how the scientific theories in a Star Trek move have to make some kind of real world sense. There are always all these little mistakes made in movie productions. Like for instance an actors watch switches suddenly from one wrist to another in mid scene. Or an actresses hair is all of a sudden different from one second to another in the same scene. IMDB has a whole section on this kind of stuff for every movie in it’s database. I spent a few hours there one afternoon.
Movie award shows are another good source of trivia for movies. The Academy Oscar awards being of course the biggest but not the only. There of course the Raspberries, the Golden Globes, the Teen Choice Awards and the MTV Movie Awards. Given the length of some of these awards shows, and the dizzying number of categories they give awards in, it’s not surprise there is a lot of statistics and trivia generated by them. It’s almost as bad as baseball when it comes to statistics. Now do keep in mind, that pure statistics themselves are not considered. At least not unless they can be presented in an interesting manner that somehow entertains or illuminates the reader.
