The world of pet fountains is just like anything else when it comes to prices. You can find very low prices, very high prices, and a lot of prices in between. You can really only make sense of the price if you understand that not every pet fountain s created equal. In fact, there are huge spreads in the quality of these pet accessories just like there is a huge spread in the prices. It makes sense to shop around, and although you can sometimes find an unusually good deal it usually a matter of you get what you pay for.
On the bottom end of the price range are the fountains you see at the local branch of the big name pet stores like Petco and Petsmart. These “no name” brands are generally attractively priced when it comes to pet supplies, but when you are dealing with something like a pet fountain you have to be careful. These units will almost always be made of plastic, and will be fairly light weight and on the small side. they might function okay for a single cat household, but I would strongly recommend not using one of these fountains for dogs. Even small dogs pack a lot more power than a cat does and you could soon find your floor covered with water and the plastic bowl destroyed! This is because a pet’s first response to a new fountain is usually to consider it a toy rather than his or her source of water.
If you have dogs, you definitely want a fountain that has more substance to its design. Rubber feet to give it some grab on the floor are a nice feature and can be found on the better pet fountains. The water should be circulated by a pump and that pump should be UL approved for safety. If you have multiple pets, take a look at the Drinkwell 360 pet fountain. Drinkwell is the largest maker of these fountains and this one in particular is the only fountain specifically made for multiple pet homes.
The bottom line is there are a lot of fountains to choose from. Once you get out of that very low price range for the cheap versions we talked about earlier, the prices are actually grouped pretty tightly in the $35-$60 range, with a couple of the larger fountains priced higher than that but none over $100. Check out your options, pick a quality fountain, and both you and your pets will be happy with your choice for a long time to come.
