The world of video camcorders has advanced along with the world of photography and almost at the same pace. It is an exciting thing to watch all of the new advancements in this part of technology right now. Camcorders come in all sizes and shapes these days. They have gone from big, clunky ones that take up lots of space to ones that fit in the palm of your hand. They have gone from using a weird 8mm tape to using a digital memory card. They have gone from needing to be plugged in to run to having a battery that lasts for several hours at a time without being recharged. They have gone from taking grainy, scratchy, jumpy videos to taking movie-like videos.
The brands are all trying to come up with the next thing that’s bigger and better than what the last “improvement” was. The prices are coming down because there are so many manufacturer’s making them. They are all competing with one another to sell more than the rest of the manufacturer’s. The competition between manufacturer’s is not a bad thing for us, the general public. It’s actually a GOOD thing because it has forced the companies to lower their prices.
It’s amazing what you can do with a good high definition video camcorder and a computer these days. You can make your own commercials and edit them on your computer (with the right software and know-how) so it looks like your “commercial” is professionally produced. You can add music or other still photographs to your commercial with just a few clicks of a button. And the nice thing about the price on video camcorders dropping is that you don’t HAVE to have a really expensive one to put together a nice video!! Some of the more inexpensive ones will give you just as good a quality video as the more expensive camcorders.
Maybe making home videos is something you had not really thought about doing before. With the price of digital video cameras down where the “regular Joe” can afford them, maybe you should start. One of the BEST Christmas gifts I ever gave was several years ago when I had spent the entire year taking short, little video clips of my son (who was not even one year old yet) and putting them together on a video tape for the grandparents. I think they got more enjoyment out of that gift than anything else that we’ve ever given them. Give it a try…..it MIGHT just be the best gift you give yourself, as well as others.
