Putting Home PC Repairs On Auto Pilot – Reimage Review

As more and more people choose to work from home it has become increasingly important to be able to do your own computer repair and maintenance or to utilize PC maintenance software to automate the process. In this Reimage review I’ll detail the various Windows XP repairs it has been able to tackle.

I first tried Reimage in 2008 after spotting it could fix a blue screen error I repeatedly saw (with the code 0x80072F76). It runs as an online service from within Internet Explorer, so no disks are required, and initially scans your PC for faults to the registry/file system. In this instance it highlighted numerous registry keys either being missing, wrongly set or orphaned (belonging to applications I had removed).

The repair stage was able to set these correctly based on their database of healthy system configurations and after a reboot the blue screen thankfully failed to reappear.

Following the blue screen issue I’ve also run it on 2 desktop PCs which really weren’t working as fast as they had used to. Again, the initial scan picked up registry issues but it also detected device driver problems, especially in relation to the modem which I had not expected. As before the repairs took under 20 minutes to complete and most of this time is taken up with downloading the latest file versions it needs to upgrade.

The real benefit to me has been Reimage’s ability to make the repairs without losing my personal data. In the case of the blue screen issue, I was considering reinstalling Windows XP just to remedy the issue which would have cleared application/configuration data instantly.

If your system is kept up to date (via the Windows Update in your start menu) then the bulk of drivers and OS updates will be picked up for you automatically, meaning the only time you should need Reimage is when you need to actually repair the registry/OS/applications. In this instance, Reimage provides a good last line of defense for home PC repairs.
