The Sony PSP is a great handheld system for on the go, whether you are playing your favorite video games, surfing the net, watching some good movies, looking and sharing your favorite pictures, or listening to your favorite music. The PSP can do all this and more, but to do most of this the PSP needs a place to store all those games, movies, and songs. Memory cards for the PSP come in many different storage capacities ranging from 256mb to 32gb and different prices from a few dollars to close to a hundred dollars. Here is some useful information to help you understand what to look for.

The Memory card the PSP uses are known as “Memory Sticks” the specific model being the Memory Stick Duo, so if you own a Sony Camera, there is a chance that you can use the same card for both devices. The Duo model memory sticks have now been replaced with the “Pro Duo” because of its faster load times and a much higher storage capacity then the original Duo models. When purchasing a Memory stick it is important that your PSP has been updated with firmware V2.81 or sooner, otherwise you will not be able to use any PSP memory card larger then 4GB. It is also important to note that some game titles are only compatible with 2 to 4GB or less memory cards. Some memory sticks carry a “MARK 2” label, meaning they are compatible with AVCHD recording equipment like cameras and camcorders, but they also has a much faster writing and copy speed which is a great feature for people who want to be able to load games faster or put in or take out music and movies from the device faster.

When buying a Memory stick, Buy from reputable local stores getting either the Sony or Sandisk brand as they are the most reliable and popular models with Sandisk being slightly less expensive. Stay away from sites like ebay as there are fake memory sticks on the market which, while the prices seem amazing, are faulty at best.
