Home defense is a subject that many people take very seriously…at least they think they do. On one hand, you have folks who are armed to the teeth with several thousand dollars worth of high powered rifles and custom modified shotguns, but they’re all locked up in a 2000 lbs safe in the basement. How in the world are they going to arm themselves in time to properly defend their home if disaster strikes? On the other side, you have Joe Cowboy, who sleeps with a 1911 under his pillow and a Mossberg 500 in the mattress. This guy won’t have any trouble finding his guns quickly in the dark – unfortunately, however, neither will his kids.
The compromise is simple. By employing a fingerprint handgun safe (also referred to as a biometric gun safe), you can match the perfect balance of security and emergency access. Fundamentally, the way it works is the owner enters his fingerprint into the state-of-the-art scanner mounted on the face of the safe. Once successfully configured (a simple process by the way), he or she has access to their pistol in less than a second. What’s beautiful about this is that not only is it incredibly quick, but you don’t have to worry about seeing it in the dark; if you can reach it, you can open it. To add to the excitement, you, and whoever else you choose are the only ones with access. With a fingerprint safe, you don’t have to worry about someone punching in numbers, trying to guess the code.
If you happen to have an army of gun handlers living in your house, other than yourself, most fingerprint gun safes can store multiple fingerprints – the BioVault, arguable the best fingerprint safe, stores up to 50! Even if you’re living single, it’s not a bad idea to program in several of your own fingers, just in case convenience is restricted.
Fingerprint gun safes tend to be a little more expensive than generic electronic keypad entry pistol boxes (around $200 on average), but the convenience and unique, unbeatable security standard is absolutely worth the cost.
