Fully integrated kitchens

There is no question that the kitchen receives the most attention from home owners, when it comes to remodeling projects and overall design considerations. the bathroom comes in a distant second to the kitchen in this regard, and other rooms in the house probably fall way back into the mix. Over the past few years, there has been a movement in kitchen design, wherein the major appliances are being worked into the overall decor, and this is known as integration.

With an integrated kitchen design, the major appliances are designed to blend into the framework of the overall scheme. Dishwashers, ovens, garbage compactors, refrigerators, and even smaller appliances like microwaves and toaster ovens are designed in such a way that they remain hidden from view until they are called up for their intended use.

The best example of this type of design is the fully integrated fridge freezer combo, which is designed with the same paneling as the rest of the kitchen. Until the refrigerator or freezer doors are actually opened, the appliance itself looks like just another cupboard or pantry door, keeping it hidden from plain view. Think of this design concept as a secret doorway, and you’ll pretty much have a grasp on this concept.

The kitchen isn’t the only room in the house to receive the integration treatment. Integrated washing machines are also designed to stay tucked away behind a panel doorway, until they are needed for use. The beauty of integrated appliances is that designing them directly into the home decor allows for an overall minimalistic and sleek feel to the contemporary design.

Integrated kitchens, and specifically integrated appliances, seem to be the wave of the future, but home decor undergoes such radical design changes every decade or so, so who knows? This may just be a crazy fad…
