Corner Showers Save Space

Posted on March 10, 2010 | Category: House Trivia

Corner showers are an architectural design decision to save space in a bathroom. Many rooms that once only had a toilet and sink can also house a shower with creative decision making. Corner showers are exactly what they sound like. They are a shower fixture built into the corner of a room. Typically space in corners are difficult to utilize but a shower can take care of that. A corner shower saves money, space and looks classy.

A corner shower typically has 2 surfaces that must tiled rather than 3 or more. That is a tremendous advantage because it means it can be installed relatively quickly. The two corners that must be tiled form a v-shape typically. The third edge that typically forms the triangle of a corner shower is usually made of glass. This saves money because less construction is needed. Less tiling and wall work is needed thanks to corner shower designs.

Space is a major consideration in corner showers. However, a corner shower can fit just about anywhere. The only space that needs to be allocated is the room for the person to stand. The door usually forms a wall barrier anyway.

Corner showers are more elegant than regular showers because they require the use of a glass door. They upgrade the look of a bathroom by making it look classy. Other showers usually use cloths or other materials to substitute. However, a corner shower requires a solid surface. This surface does not have to be as large as the fixture includes two wall surfaces. The shape is typically a pentagon to allow for more space. The two sides are the wall and the other 2 sides are solid glass and then 1 side is the door.

The big downside to corner showers is that the same space saving features can be claustrophobic to some people. It is important then to make sure the corner shower design incorporates clear glass so people can see outside. When it comes time to make a home improvement in your home, these showers should be high on your list of bathroom options.
