Are you looking for a new hobby? Have you thought about collecting action figures? It is not something I would have thought I’d be doing a few years ago. I can blame Buffy the Vampire Slayer — the series, not the character. I came late the show. I admit it; I’m not the biggest geek out there. I finally watched it on DVD a few years back.
But I found myself loving the show and searching the internet for Buffy action figures. I started with one. I bought the Willow and Tara duo and if you’ve watched the show, you’ll know why. The action figures are just fun. This set comes with a little kitty cat and some magical items.
There are literally hundreds of Buffy action figures to choose from. Not all of them are Buffy herself of course. You can get her one-time boyfriend (Oh, is that a spoiler?) Angel or best friend Xander. There are supporting characters like Anya, and various vampires and demons.
Collecting the action figures can get expensive, I’ll be the first to admit that. Since the show was on ten years ago, you can find lots of action figures cheap on eBay. Buffy figures tend to hold their value, which is good and bad. You can get some of the more common ones for $10 to $20 dollars. Out of their packaging, they are even cheaper. But of course, once any action figure is opened, it is not worth as much.
I am not an uber-collector. I truly enjoy the show and the action figures are just a way to extend that enjoyment, so I do the unthinkable (usually) and open the packages. I do have a few action figures that are still in the packaging. Or I bought one to keep and one to open. There is a Giles (Buffy’s mentor) as demon action figure that is just awesome. I have him at work, but I bought a second one to keep intact. It’s not like I think these are going to pay for my kids’ college educations or anything. One day, however, I probably will want to sell some or all of these collectibles and I want to get my money back from them. Who knows — maybe I’ll be selling them to you.
