Choices for Types of Baby Blankets

At long last, the nine months are over. You are now a proud parent, and its about time you started shopping for clothes for your newborn baby. Choosing something like baby blankets seems easy enough, and it is, but there are some things to keep in mind first. If you want the best, you should learn about the differences between products.

One significant difference you need to pay attention to is the materials that the blanket is made of. Specifically, the type of fabric. There are blankets made out of virtually any fabric, and not all are created equal. Each has different properties and different uses.

Fleece blankets

Fleeces is basically one hundred percent polyester. This fabric is made synthetically. The distinctive feature about it is that its design greatly facilitates wicking (the transfer of moisture from the skin through the fabric to the air). This feature keeps the fabric dry. It insulates well. With fleece, you get a healthy balance of breathability, warmth and comfort.

In addition, it is light, can be cared for easily, and relatively stain resistant.

Flannel Blankets

Flannel is a combination of silk and cotton. Flannels are well known for having colorful, eye-catching patterns. Often times the mix includes a larger percentage of cotton than it does silk. This means that flannel shares some of the properties of cotton. There is no wrong answer. Whatever suits you is best.

Cotton Blankets

Cotton is made from seeds which come from plant of the same name. This fabric is affordable, soft, and absorbent. It is a relatively strong fabric, so it takes a lot to tear it. It can easily be ironed with no damage to the blanket. Cotton is not a very good insulator, however. When the whether is dry it is fine, but as soon as it gets wet it looses its insulation. It absorbs water so well, that it can hold up to twenty seven times its weight in water!

So pay attention to what climate you live in, and where you’ll be taking your blankets. Base your choice on how well the fabric will suit your baby’s environment. Do this and you will definitely make the right choice.
