There are quite a few benefits that come from putting in a new laminate floor not the least of which is that the floor looks extremely good. There are laminates that will look as though you have just installed a hardwood floor and others that make it look as though you have laid a slate floor. Both of these types of floors cost considerably more than the cost of laminate and here is the next reason why it is such a popular material.
But the main reason that people find laminate floors a preferred flooring option is because they are hard wearing and will be able to withstand a lot of foot traffic. They won’ t noticeably wear in the areas that see the majority of use.
A laminate floor imitates the way a wooden floor looks and feels yet it is much easier to install. The end result is a floor that looks great with the natural appearance of wood, yet it has the toughness that you get with a laminated surface.
Installation is so much easier than a wooden floor with laminate products available these days that simply lock together in place. This means that not only do you not need the nails that traditional wooden floors require you also don’t need the glue that was used in the past. All you need to do is follow a set of guidelines that are often provided with the product if you choose to do the installation yourself and slot the pieces into place.
There are a few care precautions that should be followed to ensure that the floor looks new for as long as possible. Dragging heavy furniture is to be avoided because the laminate can be deeply scratched. You should also try, where possible, to avoid prolonged water exposure to the laminate. Laminate floors are able to withstand a certain amount of moisture without much problem but if the water seeps into any of the cracks between the boards and into the subfloor you could find yourself facing the dilemma of how to dry a water damaged laminate floor. This is a task that is possible but requires a fair amount of work.
There is a lot going for installing a laminate floor. The savings is a big incentive but the real reason you would choose this type of flooring is because it gives you a floor that truly looks good.
