A Backyard Camping Trip

Camping can be one of the greatest backyard adventures that the entire family can enjoy. It’s a great way to introduce kids to life in the great outdoors while keeping them within the safe and secure environment of your home. You can teach your kids all the basics of outdoor living, such as pitching a tent, starting a campfire, and help them get used to using sleeping bags. The best part of camping out back is that all the amenities and comforts of home are just a few steps away. You can have the option of sitting around a fire sharing ghost stories and toasting marshmallows one minute and then enjoy the facilities of a fully functioning kitchen and bathroom the next. This means you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

You can also integrate any of your backyard improvements into your camping experience. If you have a fire pit or bbq, then you can use it to cook your meals or use it as a safe place to start your campfire.  Try and use your camping gear as much as possible to keep the theme alive.  At night the family can lie down on the grass and do some stargazing, try to make out the various constellations, or wait for a shooting star. Those looking for more social activities can share any ghost stories they may have and try to spook the other campers.  Enjoy roasting marshmallows or smores over the fire pit.  Camping in the backyard also makes for a great sleepover activity, so your kids can invite their friends over to join in the fun.

Using your own backyard as a camping ground is also cheaper and more convenient than finding a campground far away. You won’t need to endure a long drive into the wilderness, pay any parking or camping fees, or put up with the lack of any facilities.  Backyard activities of this type can create memories that allow the whole family to grow closer while enjoying a unique experience.
